SpaceX Reusable Launch System

Here’s something even I didn’t expect to see out of SpaceX: every single stage of a Falcon 9 landing on a pad instead of burning up in the atmosphere or splashing down in the ocean.

This isn’t just a concept, either. SpaceX has already filed for the permits necessary to test the technique at their Texas facility using a mocked-up booster stage and a single Merlin engine (instead of the nine they usually use).

Wow. Just wow.
